SEND Provision
At Claverdon Primary School we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child can achieve their full potential. We recognise that children learn in different ways and may need additional support at different points in their school journey.
We aim to ensure that all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), are able to access a broad and balanced curriculum and participate fully in school life.
Our Approach to SEND
In line with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015), we identify and support pupils with SEND using a graduated approach:
Assess – Plan – Do – Review
This means that teachers regularly assess pupils’ progress, plan appropriate support, deliver targeted teaching or interventions where needed, and review the impact of this support with pupils and parents.
High-quality teaching is the first step in supporting all pupils. Where additional support is required, this may include adaptations to teaching, small group work, targeted interventions or advice from external specialists.
Working with Parents and Pupils
We believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is essential. If concerns arise about a child’s progress, the class teacher will discuss these with parents and agree the next steps.
Parents and pupils are involved in planning and reviewing support, and their views and aspirations are considered when decisions are made about provision.
If you have concerns about your child’s progress, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
The SENDCo
The school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Debbie Bevan, who oversees the day-to-day management of SEND provision in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
Mrs Bevan works closely with staff, parents and external professionals to ensure that pupils with SEND receive appropriate support. She holds the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination.
If you would like to contact Mrs Bevan, please do so through the school office.
SEND Governor
The governing body has a designated SEND link governors, Mrs Emma Basden-Smith and Mrs. Nikki Reed, who supports and monitors the school’s work in relation to SEND.
If you would like to arrange a meeting with the SEND governor, please contact the school office.
External Support
Where appropriate, the school works with a range of external agencies to support pupils with SEND, such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and specialist advisory teachers.
